The XeSkouriaZo Trail is a race with a stance. The Megali Panagia Women's Association runs it for the Kakavos forest, threatened by the gold mine at Skouries. The 25 km climbs through oak and beech and runs two kilometres along the mine's fence. The second half is a V: a steep drop to 280 m, then 390 m back up in 1.8 km, at up to 34%. Its name, Greek for "shaking off the rust", hides Skouries inside it.
