Vytina Forest Trail

The points that decide the race: technical sections, stations, climbs, summits and what to watch for generally.

The organiser's own course description

• Into the forestkm 0.7After 700 m of tarmac through old Vytina, a downhill path to the kiosk at Mavra Litharia, a short 200 m climb, then a technical descent to the stone bridge of Tzavaraina.
• Station 1, Nymfasia (840 m)km 5.8On the village square, after a stretch along the river and a steep climb up from the bridge.
• Station 2, below Sfyridakm 10A dirt road, a downhill path to the stone bridge of Kernitsa, then climbing with constant changes of gradient past the Kernitsa monastery to the clearing below Sfyrida.
• Station 3, Magouliana (1,365 m)km 14.5One of the finest stretches: a path through dense fir forest past the Sfyrida hermitage, where a spring gives water, and climbing all the way to the highest village in the Peloponnese.
• Station 4, Mousga springkm 19.3Downhill from Magouliana on tarmac and path, then dirt road, to the spring near Agios Nikolaos. The last station, before the technical part of the race.
• Zarzis bridge and the climb homekm 21A very technical downhill path of about 1.5 km to the Zarzis stone bridge: the organisers single it out, so take it at a pace you control. Then 1.5 km of climbing on a path back up to the square of Vytina.
