Virgin Forest Trail runs in the Rodopi on the border with Bulgaria, through beech and spruce forests that turn red and gold in late October. The 162.7 km VFUT leaves Paranesti station at 22:00 on Thursday. It crosses three great streams, climbs to 1,771 m on the border ridge and touches the edge of the Fraktos virgin forest, with 40 hours and two nights to get back. Four shorter races fill the Saturday and Sunday, down to a 10K by the Nestos.

The organisers' GPX, a 2015 file for the same course, measures 167.6 km with +6,667 m; ITRA measures 168.66 km and +7,314 m. Stations up to Fraktos sit at the organisers' kilometres. From Farasinos on, where the file runs 3–5 km longer than the tables, they sit where the file passes each place, and the note gives the organisers' figure.
