A night crossing of Olympus from its quiet north-west side. The ALOU leaves the ruined village of Palia Vrontou at a minute to midnight, climbs 2,200 m in the dark to Nana, drops to Kokkinopilos and climbs again past Hotza to Skolio, the mountain's second summit at 2,911 m. Then it dives past Refuge A to Prionia and climbs once more to the Petrostrougka hut on the way home: 65 km and 5,550 m of climbing. On Sunday a 22 km and an 11 km race climb the forest above the village, and the finish turns into a village feast with traditional music.
