A marathon round a car-free island. From the quay the course climbs the cobbled main street to the windmills, runs the pine ridges with sea on both sides and takes the stone climb the locals call the soul tormentor to the 588 m summit of Eros. Then it drops past the monasteries to the top of the town, works round the empty back of the island by the beaches of Nisiza and Palamidas, and comes home along the coast over the old stone bridge at Vlychos. About 2,000 m of climbing on cobbles, rock, dirt and pebbles. The 18 km Rock Race takes the first, highest part; the 8 km Rookie and a Saturday 5 km stay closer to town.
