From Plikati, at 1,240 m under the Grammos ridge on the Albanian border, the 21 km goes straight up: 900 m in the first four and a half kilometres, to a crest above 2,100 m. Then it runs the exposed border ridge past an old military outpost, drops through beech and fir to a stream, climbs 470 m again through beech forest and comes down across alpine meadows, past the waterfalls, to the square: about 1,650 m of climbing. A 10 km loop on the slopes opposite the village shares the day.
