Critical points Terrain & gear
The points that decide the race: technical sections, stations, climbs, summits and what to watch for generally.
Station, km 5 km 5 Out of Megara through pistachio orchards and olive groves, climbing steadily from the start: about 100 m in the first 5 km. Station, km 10 km 10 Still climbing, gently, now about 220 m up. The climb goes on to km 15: keep it easy, the day is long. Station, km 15 km 15 Near the top of the first climb, about 370 m, among the pines. Next the road drops about 350 m in 7 km to the sea. Station, km 20 km 20 On the descent to the Gulf of Corinth. Let the legs run, but do not burn them: the hardest part of the race is still ahead. Station, km 25 km 25 Sea level, on the shore road of Alepochori and Dourakou, the five flat kilometres by the water. The big climb starts here: about 480 m in 10 km, to about 500 m at km 35. Eat and drink before it. Station, km 30 km 30 Halfway up the big climb, around 270 m. Hiking the steeper bits is no shame at this point of an ultra. Station, km 35 km 35 The top of the race, about 500 m. From here it is downhill almost all the way to Megara, about 460 m down over 15 km: save your quads for it. Station, km 40 km 40 Descending, around 300 m. The gradient eases as you come down towards the plain of Megara. Station, km 45 km 45 Last station. 4.6 km to go, easing into the streets of Megara and the finish on Lytara Square.
