Ainos Mountain Marathon

The Ainos mountain marathon climbs from the villages of Pyrgi to the highest summit on Kefalonia, Megas Soros at 1,628 m. The big climb is in the dark fir forest of the national park: 700 m in 3.5 km, at up to 27%. Then you run for kilometres along the ridge above 1,400 m, with the Ionian below you. With luck you will see the semi-wild horses of Ainos. From the top you run downhill, almost without a break, for 17 km to the square at Charakti.
