The points that decide the race: technical sections, stations, climbs, summits and what to watch for generally.

The organiser's own course description

• First station, Mavilis memorialkm 6The memorial to the poet Lorentzos Mavilis stands at about 900 m. You have climbed about 270 m from the square to get here. The first station is here too, at km 6. Most of the race’s 1,150 m of climbing is still ahead of you. Take this first climb easy.
• Agia Paraskevi springkm 7You pass the monastery of Agios Nikolaos and the chapel of Agia Paraskevi. Drinking water runs from the chapel’s foundations. From km 7 to km 9 you run through a pine forest. Fill your bottle: the next station is 5–6 km away.
• The merchants’ pathkm 9At km 9 you join an old path that runs to km 12. Merchants from Syrrako and Kalarrytes once walked it to Ioannina. The cut-off waits at its end. Check your watch.
• Central station (cut-off)km 12 Cutoff 3h00 from the start You must reach this point within 3 hours of the start, or your race ends here. The organisers call it the central station. Their list of stations, though, puts the second station at km 13. If there is no station here, you will find it a kilometre on.
• Drinking-water springkm 15This is the second of the three drinking-water springs the organisers name. The third and last station is 2 km further on.
• Third stationkm 17This is the last station of the race. At km 18 you enter an oak forest, with an old threshing floor on your right. One more spring follows at km 19.
• Last spring, old aqueductkm 19Here you pass an old aqueduct. The people of Platania and Iliokali drew their water from it before the village network was built. This is the last water: the finish on the square is 2 km away.
